David Hernandez is now an Independent Voter!
In a nation established as a government of the people, by the people and for the people, how can politicians keep the people from uniting and rising up against them? What means, tactics or illusions of political difference can they utilize to keep the forces of the non-agenda driven or those not connected to the elite inner circle from finding common ground?
On the surface political platforms are touted by the two major parties, Republicans and Democrats. Each has an established political beachhead on the social front–Abortion, Gay Marriage, Global Warming, National Security, Health Care or Gun Control are issues which immediately stir passion and anger in any and every debate. In front of the camera and to the unfortunately not too discerning eye of the public, politicians of each party proclaim Historical and Biblical righteousness for their positions and convictions.
But what takes place when the people are not looking, when the truth is being told behind closed doors? Who is looking out for the interest of your family, your community and our country?
There are elections which claim to be partisan and non-partisan. But how can we have such a division of philosophy, beliefs and convictions in partisan elections and seemingly no difference when it is labeled non-partisan? The answer lies in what is really taking place behind those closed doors between the two major parities–self interest and self preservation at the expense of your family, your community and our country.
The evidence is too vast to list every example, but we will name a few. Please be sure you are seated for the remainder of this reading. The State of California like all other states is divided into State Assembly Districts. In Los Angeles County, there are 26 districts. Each has a state representative, elected by the people. There are also districts for the State Senate, US Congress as well as other elected offices.
As a Candidate for the United States House of Representatives and later the Nominee in 2002 and 2004, I attended a Republican Convention in Sacramento. As my fellow candidates for State Assembly would later find out, the fix was in. Incumbents of each party were the benefactors of a pact between the Republicans and Democrats which insured their victory against any challenge of the opposing party. The district boundaries are not determined by any other criteria other that voter registration and Party affiliation. In order to protect the incumbent, the district is shaped to insure a three to one and often more advantage of one party, the incumbent’s party, over the other. Individual voters are cherry picked to make competition virtually impossible. Combined with a voter turn out of dismal proportions these legislators are guaranteed a victory no matter what the voter turn out is.
If that “deal with the devil” was not enough to derail the American Experiment there is another force in play. Republicans and Democrats party leaders have an agreement not to support any challenger to a seat held by and incumbent. Republican candidates are sought, they are encouraged to carry the party banner to run against an incumbent but will never receive any support. Run for the party, support the party, but don’t expect the party to support you!
Republican State Assembly Nominees are invited to a weekend in Sacramento to meet the legislative leaders of their party. The rules of life are handed down as well as a meet-and-greet with the “Third House”. The Third House is comprised of Lobbyist of every sort. The candidate is advised they will conform to the rules of the Third House or they will suffer the consequences. Those being an unlimited amount of money spent to defeat the candidate. Track the campaign contributions of the major Republican donors and you will discover that far too many are playing both sides of the street. Ask an elected Republican for an endorsement of your campaign and they will tell you I can’t do that I have a good working arrangement with your opponent and can’t do anything to upset that.
In addition to that environment there is also the plain truth that all my battles in the interest of the community have been against the combined forces of Democrats and Republicans. From educational issues like AB1381, ethics and term limits in the City of Los Angeles with Proposition R, the opposition has been from politicians of both major parties working together against the rule of law and the welfare of the people.
All have led me to make a major change in my political life. My path is clear, my duty and course of action easily defined. In order to properly represent the people of my Community, City and Country, I must leave the Republican Party as I once left the Democratic Party. I must be independent of the games and deception.
For that reason, David Hernandez has re-registered as a Decline-to-State. I am now an independent voter. Please feel free to join my effort to inform, unite and re-register voters of all parties to the roles of the Independent Voters. We are already over 700,000 strong in Los Angeles County alone and that is with no re-registration effort.
